I personally love the bah kut teh @ Joo Chiat. It's just next to the CC. It's always piping hot with herbal notes. They also have other small dishes to go along with it. I always have braised pig's kidney as a side.



Another popular one amongst my friends would be the one @ Balestier. There's lots there but our pick is the one next to Orchid Hotel. It's BKT in a clear broth so no herbs, just pure BK.

it will depend on what you would define as "good bah kut teh", where u prefer one that has a stronger herb taste to the soup or whether you prefer one that has a stronger meat aroma in the soup.



if u're a lover of the former, the one that i've best tried so far is the one that is opposite The Concourse/Shopping Mall at beach road. i doubt u can miss it as it is facing the main road, and it has pictures of the U-magazine food directory with Sylvester Sim on the cover all around the shop. sorry that i dont have the name of the shop ^^". you have a choice of whether to eat it with rice or mee sua.



if u have a soft spot for the latter, then u'll have to travel all the way to the Food Centre, that is next to the East Coast Lagoon's Cable Ski Park, that is in East Coast Park Area E. okay, i know this sounds a tad confusing, but if u happen to be jogging, or cycling or blading in ECP it'll be a lot easier cos it's down the track.

it goes by the name of "Han Jia's Bak Kut Teh" i think. Han being the english translation of the chinese surname 韩家. hmm not too sure if u can view the chinese.

Bak Kut Teh (Chinese: 肉骨茶; Hanyu Pinyin: ròugúchá; POJ: bah-kut-tê) is a soup dish served in Singapore. In Hokkien and Teochew, "bak kut" means "pork rib" and "teh" means "tea". The soup forms the base of this dish and is made from pork bones that have been boiled together with whole garlic, white pepper corns, star anise, cloves, cinnamon and soya sauce for hours so that the broth takes on fully all the tastes of the various ingredients. The end product should have juicy and tender meat with a flavourful (and slightly spicy) soup. Generally, Bak Kut Teh is cooked in a clay pot with pork ribs, varieties of mushroom, lettuce, and dried Taufu Pok.

If you like the peppery variety, try Rangoon Road. Drive down Serangoon Road then take a left turn into Rangoon Road. It's near the end of the road.



The other uses young pepper. It's along Gloucester Road. Drive down Rangoon Road, turn left into Dorset Road, then turn left into Owen Road and then a right into Gloucester Road. It's the coffeeshop on the right.



Both shops open morning and will be closed around 1400 hrs.
